Open Topo Data is a REST API server that provides access to elevation data. Users can utilize the free public API or host their own server with customizable datasets.

What can you use it for?

Build hiking apps that show elevation profiles, map visualizations with height shading, or routing tools that avoid steep climbs. You can query single points or many points in one request and use Google-Maps-style polyline locations. Try it during development without signing up, and self-host if you need higher throughput or custom datasets. Note the public endpoint has modest daily and per-second limits for fair use.
