Definitely not! What really sets this site apart from all other API directories is that each API endpoint is tested once every 24 hours by our friendly robots to make sure it works. When our robots find an API that no longer works it will start ranking poorly and eventually be removed from the site.
Our robots use three key metrics to evaluate an API and calculate a health score between 0 and 100:
Reliability: does the endpoint reliably return the same JSON structure?
Error Rate: does the endpoint return errors?
Response Time: how fast is the endpoint?
The goal of this website is to provide students of the University of Applied Sciences in Grisons (Switzerland), with an up-to-date list of free, useful and reliable APIs for their programming projects.
The website was made out of necessity by me, Nick Schneeberger, because I maintained a static list of free APIs for my students. Each semester, I had to manually check if these APIs were still working, hadn't moved behind a paywall, or changed their endpoints. This was an incredibly time-consuming task, as APIs would frequently go offline without notice or switch to paid-only models.
Special thanks to Benjamin Hanimann for contributing numerous APIs to the platform and helping it grow into what it is today!
If you too know a cool API from your city, country or company, feel free to add it here.
